Spartans Basketball Opens Playoffs at Hudson Valley

Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball will look to upset Hudson Valley Community College in the opening round of the Region III playoffs on Tuesday.

The 10th-seeded Spartans will be on the road to face the 7th-seeded Vikings in the sub-regional round of the playoffs and will look to avenge a 96-68 away loss earlier this season. The winner will advance to face #2 Herkimer College on Friday.

Cayuga finished the regular season 6-17, with all their wins coming in Region III play. Hudson Valley finished the regular season 12-13. Tuesday's game at Hudson Valley starts at 6 p.m.

The Spartans are led on offense by sophomore forwards Marcus Pasha and Tony Borges and sophomore guard Desean Strachan. Pasha leads Cayuga with 18 points and 11 rebounds per game, while Borges averages 16 points and 10 rebounds per contest. Strachan averages 14 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Hudson Valley averages almost 85 points per game, with center Keyaton Parks leading the team with 17 points and 12 rebounds per game. Guards Julius Reed and James Blake both average 15 points per game, and point guard Nazier Carter averages four assists.

In the matchup with the Vikings earlier this season, the Spartans trailed by 11 at halftime before struggling in the second half. Amaree Samuel paced Cayuga's starters in the game with 10 points and eight rebounds.
