Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball fell to Hudson Valley Community College in the opening round of the Region III playoffs on Tuesday.
The 10th-seeded Spartans fell behind early and struggled to catch the 7th-seeded Vikings, losing 92-73 in the sub-regional round of the playoffs. Cayuga also lost earlier this season to Hudson Valley, and ends the season with a record of 6-18.
After the teams traded baskets in the opening minutes, the Vikings used runs of 10-2 and 13-2 to build a lead they held the rest of the game. The Spartans struggled with turnovers in the opening half and trailed 47-31 at the break. Tony Borges led Cayuga with eight points in the first half, and Marcus Pasha had seven points and seven rebounds.
Hudson Valley started the second half on a 12-2 run to increase their lead. They controlled the frame, holding a 20-point lead until the final minutes of the contest.
Borges finished with 21 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Pasha had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Samiar Bennett had 13 points and four steals, Desean Strachan had eight points and four steals, and Jorge Jimenez had nine points.
