Pioneers Hand Spartans Another Loss

Pioneers Hand Spartans Another Loss

The Spartan Men traveled to Alfred to face the Pioneers but came up against a very strong and physical team. The Spartans worked hard for the full 90 minutes but fell 6-0 at the end of the game. At the end of the first half the Pioneers were 4-0 ahead. The Spartans came really close with shots from Will Backhouse (Swinton, England), Muke Heri (Syracuse, NY), and Nahayo Manasse (Syracuse, NY) but were unable to beat the Alfred keeper.

After a tough first half the Spartans came out and held possession and had some opportunities on the Pioneers goal, but again the Alfred defense were on task to deny the Spartans effort. Cayuga men worked very hard and the physicality of the game got the better of them. The Pioneers finished the game scoring twice late in the second half to win 6-0.

Coach Wynne said, "Both teams battled hard but Alfred was the better team on the day. I have to say I'm very proud of how the men played in the second half and unfortunately weren't able to get on the score-sheet. We battled very hard in the second half and had a majority of the possession, I thought we would score but the defense and keeper played very well. I pushed Jason Boxx (Brentford, England) into the midfield and he played very well there alongside Heri and Backhouse but could get a goal to get back into the game. We just need to be a little more focused on the game when defending".
