Jamestown Outlasts Spartan Men

Jamestown Outlasts Spartan Men

The Cayuga Spartan men's soccer team faced their region 3 counterparts Jamestown today in Auburn, NY in was a must win game for Cayuga. The game started off well for both teams, with the Spartan men coming very close to getting on the score sheet early with good chances.

Cayuga kept most of the possession in the early part of the first half while Jamestown got to grips with the game. Jamestown CC had some chances, but Spartan Keeper Bior Ajak (Syracuse, NY) kept his composure to keep the game tied 0-0 in the first 25 minutes of play.

It wasn't until the 36 minute when JCC struck first with a great pass by Connor Meekins to set up Blake Barker to put the ball past the oncoming Ajak. The first-half ended with Jamestown keeping pressure on the Cayuga Defense with the score 1-0 in favor of Jamestown.

With the second-half underway, Cayuga looked to step up their play and with some early shots not finding the back of the net ending in a loss for Cayuga 1-0.

We caught up with coach Wynne and asked him how he thought the team played? "Well I thought we played well, but overall the score line doesn't reflect that.  1-0 is a hard result to swallow due to our efforts we put forth in the match to today. It just came down to who scored and who didn't, and Jamestown finished their chances and we didn't. I feel like we need to want to win more and don't settle for second place".
