Cayuga Community College Men's Soccer claimed a lead just minutes into their home match Wednesday and never relinquished the advantage in a victory over Finger Lakes Community College.
Jake Botterill scored his first of three goals less than two minutes into play as the Spartans defeated the Lakers by a 5-1 final in only their second home match of 2024. Cayuga is now 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play.
After Botterill scored on a centering pass from Bigad Sid, the Spartans were on the defensive for much of the first half. The Lakers were unable to score, though, and Cayuga made it 2-0 just before the half on a goal by Reece Harper.
Cayuga jumped out in the second half with two quick goals, with Sid again assisting on a goal by Botterill and Joseph Edet adding another score to make it 4-0. The Lakers scored with less than 20 minutes remaining before Botterill scored his third and final goal.
Botterill had an assist to go with his three goals, and Harper and Jack Thomas also had assists.
Wednesday's match was the first of six straight home contests for the Spartans. They're back home again on Sunday, Sept. 22, to host Erie Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Falcon Park.
