Spartans Earn #2 Seed in Region III Playoffs
After a strong regular season, Cayuga Community College Men's Soccer will open the Region III playoffs at home next week against Herkimer College or SUNY Adirondack.
The Spartans finished the regular season with a 10-2 record, including a 10-1 mark in Region III competition, good for a second-place finish behind Finger Lakes Community College. Cayuga ended the regular season ranked third nationally and will host a semifinal match on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Cayuga is the top seed in the North B District bracket for the Region III playoffs. Region III splits into two brackets for the playoffs, with the winners of the North A and North B brackets both earning a trip to the NJCAA National Championship. Finger Lakes is the top overall seed in the Region III playoffs and the top seed in the North A District.
The Spartans enter the postseason on a five-match win streak, including shutouts of Jefferson Community College and Onondaga Community College and a road victory over Herkimer. Cayuga has allowed only eight goals this season, the fewest in Region III.
Herkimer and SUNY Adirondack will play Saturday, Oct. 25, in Herkimer, with the winner moving on to face Cayuga at Falcon Park on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m.
Also in the North B District bracket is defending national champion Mohawk Valley Community College, who is currently ranked fourth nationally. The Hawks will play the winner of Jamestown Community College and Tompkins Cortland Community College in the semifinals.
The North A and North B championship matches are Saturday, Nov. 1, at Genesee Community College.
