Spartans Lose to Hawks
Cayuga Community College Women's Basketball suffered a home loss to Mohawk Valley Community College on Sunday.
The Spartans played well defensively at times but struggled on the offensive end for much of the game, losing 66-33 to the Hawks.
Cayuga Coach Jim Alberici said the team struggled with turnovers, particularly early in the game, but kept playing hard throughout the contest.
"We didn't play as well as we could have, but they're a very good team, too," he said. "The turnovers hurt us. The game gets away from you when you turn the ball over too much. But I'm proud of how hard we kept playing."
Cayuga struggled to score against the Hawks' defense in the first and second quarters, but in the second quarter managed to hold the Hawks to only six points.
The Spartans found more success on the offensive end in the third and fourth quarter, scoring 25 of their 33 points in the second half. But the Hawks managed to pull away with a strong third quarter on the offensive end.
Xavia Evener had 12 points to lead the Spartans' offense, and also had five rebounds. Haley Mosch had 10 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two assists, and Jada Smith had 10 rebounds.
Cayuga is home Wednesday, November 20, to host Jefferson Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
