Lady Spartans Close Out Campaign

Lady Spartans Close Out Campaign

Despite taking and early lead 7 minutes into the contest and then retaking the lead 13 minutes later, the Spartans,  playing at 9 strong for the 14th of 15 games, came up short to close out their season at Niagara Community College this afternoon.

Tia Segretto (Jordan, NY) would provide all the goal scoring on the day, racking up a hatrick scoring in the 38th and 25th minute of the first half, and rounding out the team scoring in the 30th minute of the second half.  Assists were provided by Theresa Miller (Poplar Ridge, NY) and Brooke Mayville (Ontario, NY) (2) respectively.  Niagara would score in the 37th, 23rd and 5th minute of the first half, with Sarah Winters, Chelsea Stachura and Samanatha Constanzo taking the honors.  Their strikes in the second stanza would see Costanzo adding two more and Faye Lyne Noel closing out their 6 goal barrage.

"I thought we put in a great effort this afternoon and had high energy for a full 90 minutes.  With the national leader in goals saved, Breanne Becker (Lusby, MD) out (because of her MCL tear against Finger Lakes last week), we were left to goalie by committee between Kali Hasbrouck (Marion, NY) and Erin Butler .  Both played admirably in the contest, and if not for the woodwork, Tia would have had a fourth tally with 11 minutes remaining, which could have shifted the momentum.  You cannot take anything away from the nucleus of players we had this season and fortitude everyone showed throughout, knowing we were entering games at a distinct disadvantage.  I want to applaud our girls as at no time did they ever want to back down from a contest, call for a forfeit or simply give up on the season.  Our sophomores, Tia and Lynsey Potter (Pulaski, NY) will leave behind a legacy perseverance, something more important than wins versus losses in the grand scheme of things," said Coach Renaud.

"Coach Simmons and I have been working tirelessly recruiting since the onset of our pre-season, and we believe if the core group returns in 2013, along with a good number of new faces joining in, we will add some numbers to our win column and reduce the ones in our loss column."
