Lady Spartans Open Their Season at Home

The Lady Spartans opened the 2012 season at home this weekend, taking on Clinton Community College at Emerson Park Field.

Clinton had the better of play and won the possession game, but the Lady Spartan defense kept the match close, and went into halftime 0-0.  It would be shortly after the start up of the second stanza when Tiarra Spencer would get their first strike of the match, assisted by Kaila McGowan.  Spencer would then assist their second goal less than five minutes later, on a nice cross to the far side of the 18, where Ashley Davidson collected it in and fired an upper 90 shot past keeper Bre Becker.

Tia Segretto led the offensive charge with 4 shots on goal for the day, but keeper Emily Schultz had the angle on each effort to preserve her first clean sheet of the year.

"We are still trying to figure out positioning with a couple of young ladies, and need to get a healthy body or two back so we  have an even playing field, but all in all, I was pleased with how we played today," said Coach Renaud.

The Spartans are back in action tomorrow afternoon when Clinton's neighbors from the north, North Country Community College arrive for the 12 noon kick off.
