Spartans Take Final Home Match in 4

Last night the Cayuga Spartans hosted Corning Community College for their final home match of the season. After a rough start, the Spartans came back in set 2 with a vengeance and never let go of the momentum. This is the first time Cayuga has defeated Corning since the program was reinstated in 2010. After the match Coach McDonough stated, "Tonight was one of the single greatest coaching matches of my life. Last season Corning went into the post season 24-0 and we never scored more than 12 points against their second string. Tonight we dominated in 4 sets."

In addition to ending the season on a high note at home, the program also honored their two sophomore athletes who will be graduating from CCC this spring. "Meghan Morrin and Lexi Tucker have been instrumental to the program's success as we have worked to rebuild and grow volleyball at CCC. Their presence will be greatly missed on and off the court. It was emotional for all of us to say goodbye."

Stat leaders for the evening included Nyasha Terry (Brooklyn, NY), Heather Thompson (Solvay, NY), Jadda Phillips (Syracuse, NY), and Lexi Tucker (Union Springs, NY). Terry had 11 kills, 2 solo blocks, and 2 block assists. Thompson had 14 kills, 2 aces, 3 solo blocks, and 5 block assists. Phillips was close to tying her season high in assists posting 32 defending her place as 4th in the region in total assists. Tucker had 22 digs bringing her to 554 on the season. She is 114 digs ahead of the athlete who is 2nd in the region in total digs and is nationally ranked for the second season in a row.

The Spartans finish their season this weekend at Jefferson CC where they will face Erie, Jamestown, and Niagara Community Colleges.
