Spartan Men Capitalizes Over Davis College At Home

The Cayuga men kicked off their first game ever against Davis College today when the visitors from Binghamton NY came to Auburn. The game started well in Cayuga's favor when in the 4th minute Captain Will Backhouse (Swindon, England) got Cayuga on the scoreboard. William Rejman (King Ferry, NY ) got the ball and laid it off to Backhouse, as the captain passed the ball into the bottom left corner past the Davis keeper to make it 1-0 to the Spartans. It wasn't long after that, when sophomore Nahayo Manasse (Syracuse, NY) received a pass from Michael Mitchell (Auburn, NY) just inside the box, when Manasse finished from 15 yards putting the Spartans 2-0 up. With about 15 minutes remaining in the first half, the English sophomore Will Backhouse (Swindon, England) got onto the score sheet once again. Backhouse picked the ball up 15 yards outside the 18 yard box and dribbled though two Davis players, and played a one two pass with Freshman Michael Mitchell (Auburn, NY) to receive it onto his chest and put the ball past the oncoming Davis keeper to make it 3-0 for the Spartans. Freshman Cody Hoyt (Cato, NY) rounded up the scoring for the Spartans in the first half when goal scorer William Backhouse became the assister to Hoyt, as Backhouse played the ball to Hoyt for him to shoot the ball first time into the Davis net to put the Cayuga Spartans up 4-0.

The Spartans kicked off the second half with some good ball movement and coming very close to scoring again. Marc Colucci (Syracuse, NY), Edward Mossow (Cato, NY) and Michael Mitchell (Auburn, NY) all came very close to scoring. It wasn't till Freshman Captain Jason Boxx (Brentford, England) received a long ball from a free kick taken by fellow Englishman Will Backhouse to control it into the box and finish the ball past the Davis goalkeeper to finish the scoring for the Spartans. Freshman Keeper Bior Ajak (Syracuse, NY) made two saves and collected his third shut-out of his collegiate career.

Coach Wynne had this to say after the game, "Well I thought we played well and kept most of the possession throughout the game. It was a good contest to play before we face TC3 on Thursday at home. It gives me a good look at some of the other players that come in as subs, in some different positions and I thought everyone played very well today. We just got to prepare for TC3 who are Nationally Ranked 4th in the country on Thursday". The Cayuga Men face TC3 at 5pm this Thursday the 27th of September at Emerson Park. The Spartans move to 3-4-1 in regular season and are 2-1-1 in the Mid State Athletic Conference.
