Cayuga Men Lose Scoring Battle On The Road To FMCC 4-2

The Cayuga Men faced FMCC today in a high goal scoring game, with FMCC coming out winners. The game started with FMCC scoring in the first 7 minutes of the game to go up 1-0. FMCC went 2-0 up after 15 minutes, when the FMCC Keeper Lee Austin punted the ball high and long into the Spartan half for Al Hassan Khala Yaya, to run onto and put the ball past Spartan Keeper Michael Mitchell (Auburn, NY). It remained 2-0 at the end of the first half.

With the second half underway the Spartans sprung to life with some very good possession and some early shots on goal. Cayuga came within one goal when Co-Captain Muke Heri (Syracuse, NY) scored on a pass from fellow Co-Captain William Backhouse (Swindon, England) who laid a pass to Heri who hit a 25 yard shot that the keeper let through his legs to cut the gap to 2-1. The FMCC went up by 2 goals again minutes later, to put the score 3-1 when FMCC's Joshua Boynton got on the score board for the home team against the run of play. The Spartans replied minutes later when Kabba Sow (Manhattan, NY) passed the ball at the corner of the 18 yard box to Mike Vanderhoof (Auburn, NY) who bent the ball around the surprised FMCC Keeper Lee Austin who thought it was going wide, and the ball ended up in the back of the net to cut the deficit to 1 goal. FMCC then put the game out of reach from the Spartans in the last 10 minutes of the game to take the win.
After the game we caught up with Coach Wynne to discuss how the game went, "It was a very disappointing game from the start we were not mentally prepared to play. This is something that is not acceptable at this level teams will punish you and that's what happened. FMCC deserved the win and they were ready to play from the kick-off. We just got to work on the mental side of our game, because we have some very talented players on this team and they work really hard, but they are only one person on the team, and some of the rest of the players need to step up. We just got to get ready for next week because we have 3 games in 6 days and it's a big week for us.

The Spartan men move to 2-4-1 in Region 3 play, and 2-1-1 in MSAC Conference play.
