Spartans Win Region III Play-off Opener
The #6 seeded Spartans upset #3 host SUNY Delhi on Saturday. Cayuga gave up an early goal by the Broncos during the first few minutes of play….before settling down. The Spartans answered in the 36th minute on a free kick goal by captain Sean Wynn (Liverpool, England) tying the score before the half ended at 1-1.
Cayuga dominated play for much of the second have with goalkeeper Tautis Poniskaitis (London, England) making two huge 1-v-1 saves and a total of 4 for the contest. The Spartan game winner came with approximately ten minutes remaining when Ryan Killian (Scipio, NY) found the back of the net on an assist by Rob Carter (York, England).
The Spartans now travel to Genesee CC on Tuesday 10/29 for the NJCAA Regional III Semi-final in an attempt to avenge an earlier season loss to the Cougars….and a chance to make it to the Region III A Championship hosted by Herkimer CCC.
