Spartans Get Convincing 7-1 Win Over Onondaga in Regional Semi-Final

Cayuga CC did not let the inability to get a home-field advantage hurt them in today's regional semi-final played at Onondaga. Jake Denerley-Jones (Manchester, England) scored the opening goal on a header assisted by Paul McCormick (Glasgow, Scotland) and Chris Barrie (Galston, Scotland) scored the second on another wonderful assist by McCormick to give the Spartans a 2-0 half-time advantage. A couple of huge saves by goalkeeper Thalu Masindi (London, England) kept the Lazers off the scoreboard in the first half.

Cayuga dominated play early in the second half with Chris Davison (Newcastle, England) knocking in the third and fourth goals on assists by Harry Hill (London, England) and McCormick. McCormick scored the fifth goal on a Davison assist to put the game away at 5-0 late in the second half.

Onondaga finally got on the board in the 80th minute…only to see the Spartans close the door responding with two final goals by Fernando Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico) from Roberto Stanescu (Long Island City, NY)…and the final coming off an unassisted Cameron Pashley (Stonehaven, Scotland) blast. Masindi and Joe Wilkins (Rochester, England) both played outstanding in the goal for Cayuga.

The Spartans now advance to the Regional Final at Herkimer College to face the winner of tonight's Herkimer-Adirondack winner at a time to be determined on Saturday 10/31…and with it comes a shot to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament for the second straight season.
