Spartans Suffer Road Loss to #2 Cougars

Cayuga Community College Men's Soccer suffered their third loss of the season Wednesday in an away match against Genesee Community College.

In a matchup of nationally-ranked Region III squads, the #9 Spartans were unable to get untracked against the #2 Cougars, losing 7-0. Cayuga entered the contest having won their past three matches, including victories over Hudson Valley Community College and Jamestown Community College.

One challenging three-minute stretch left the Spartans trailing 3-0 at the break despite a largely even first period. After equaling the Cougars at the start of the contest, Cayuga surrendered the opening goal, a goal on a penalty kick and a third score in a three-minute stretch. The Spartans held Genesee at bay the rest of the period, but were unable to cut into the lead. The Cougars remained in control in the second period, tacking on four more goals.

Cayuga is now 9-3 on the season and 8-3 in Region III competition. They have two regular season regional contests left, both at Falcon Park. They host Finger Lakes Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 14, and Tompkins Cortland Community College at 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 18.
