Spartans Rebound With Home Win

Cayuga Community College Men's Soccer picked up a conference and regional win Saturday with a one-goal victory over Finger Lakes Community College.

The Spartans picked up a 3-2 win over the Lakers behind Jake Botterill's hat trick and a pair of assists from Jack Thomas. Cayuga is now 10-3 on the season and 9-3 in Region III competition.

Cayuga took the lead less than five minutes into the contest on Botterill's first goal, but the Lakers pulled even minutes later on a penalty kick. The Lakers led 2-1 late in the first half when Botterill scored his second goal to tie the match before the break.

In the second period, Botterill scored the deciding goal on Thomas's second assist. The Spartans held off the Lakers' final scoring attempts for the win.

Along with Botterill's three goals and Thomas's two assists, Rafferty Campbell had an assist for Cayuga. The match was Botterill's third this season with at least three goals scored.

Cayuga closes the regular season with a home contest against Tompkins Cortland Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
