Spartans Dominate In Playoff Win

Cayuga Community College Men's Soccer raced to an early lead and controlled the match throughout in a home Region III Quarterfinal win over Hudson Valley Community College on Sunday.

The #6-seeded Spartans held a 3-0 lead at halftime and dominated in the second half en route to a 6-1 win over the #11 Vikings. Cayuga advances to the Region III Semifinal against #3 Herkimer College, who is currently ranked fifth nationally.

The Spartans took control after a competitive start to the match. Cayuga's Jake Botterill, the leading goal scorer in NJCAA Division III this season, scored on a direct kick to make it 1-0. He scored again minutes later, and Jack Thomas made it 3-0 Cayuga late in the first half when he scored on a corner kick.

After the Vikings narrowed the score to 3-1 early in the second half, Cayuga came back with three goals, including one from Joe Davison and two more from Botterill.

Along with the goals for Botterill, Davison and Thomas, Will Fearon had two assists and Rafferty Campbell and Adam Mohaiti had assists for Cayuga.

The Spartans' semifinal match against Herkimer College is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Herkimer. The winner advances to the regional championship on Oct. 29.
