Spartans Earn Conference Honors

Three members of Cayuga Community College Men's Soccer received conference honors this week for their strong seasons.

Key Spartans contributors and freshmen Jacob Botterill, Raffaele Mathews and Jack Thomas were named to the 2023 Men's Soccer All-Conference Team for the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Sophomore Joe Davison and freshman Chris Tielrooij were named All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Botterill, Mathews and Thomas led the Spartans in all offensive categories this season, helping the team to a 10-3-1 regular season and a 6-1 quarterfinal win in the NJCAA North B District playoffs over Hudson Valley Community College on Sunday.

Botterill leads all NJCAA Division III players with 31 goals this season, and tallied four scores against the Vikings in the quarterfinal win. He also led Cayuga with 72 points and was third in assists with 10.

Thomas led the Spartans with 13 assists and was second with 10 goals scored and 33 points. Mathews was third with nine goals scored and 29 points, and finished second with 11 assists.

Cayuga is in the NJCAA North B District Semifinals, with an away match at Herkimer College on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
