Cayuga Community College Women's Basketball couldn't get their offense going in a home loss to Tompkins Cortland Community College on Saturday.

The Spartans played well defensively but struggled with turnovers on the offensive end, losing 62-44 to the Panthers. Sophomore guard Avrey Colton paced Cayuga's attack with 14 points.

Cayuga Coach Jim Alberici said they committed too many turnovers against an athletic Panthers team that shot the ball well.

"The first half was really the story. We played even with them in the second half," said Alberici. "I think sometimes we've made the game harder than it needs to be. We missed some easy shots, and today we just turned the ball over too much."

Both teams' defenses controlled the early going, but the Panthers were able to build a seven-point lead by the end of the first quarter. Cayuga was unable to get its offense going in the second quarter and trailed 33-14 at halftime.

The Spartans' offense picked up in the third and fourth quarters, but they weren't able to cut into the Panthers' lead.

Along with Colton's 14 points, forward Haley Mosch had 12 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals for Cayuga, and Lamontiona Johnson had 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals.

Cayuga is on the road Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Erie Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
