Cayuga Community College Women's Basketball dropped a conference and regional contest to one of the top Division III teams in the country on Wednesday.

The Spartans fell behind early to the #6 Onondaga Community College Lazers and trailed throughout the game, losing 72-28. Cayuga is now 4-5 on the season.

Cayuga Coach Jim Alberici said the Spartans weren't able to get into an offensive rhythm against the Lazers.

"We had some good moments and stretches on defense, but didn't play well enough offensively," said Alberici. "OCC certainly had something to do with that. We have to give credit to them, they're a good team."

The Lazers jumped out to an early 11-0 lead and led 22-6 after the first quarter. The Spartans' defense picked up in the second quarter, shutting out the Lazers for the first six-plus minutes of the frame. But Cayuga was not able to cut into Onondaga's lead and trailed 32-11 at half. The third and fourth quarters remained in the Lazers' favor.

Forward Haley Mosch led the Spartans with 11 points and seven rebounds, and added two steals. Lexi Alberici finished with six points and five rebounds for Cayuga.

The Spartans close out the fall semester with a road game at Roberts Wesleyan University's JV team on Friday, Dec. 8. Cayuga defeated the Red Hawks 51-31 earlier this season. Tipoff on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
