Cayuga Community College Women's Basketball fell at home to one of the top teams in the country on Saturday.

The Spartans stayed with Onondaga Community College early but couldn't keep pace over four quarters, losing 87-46 to the #6 Lazers. Cayuga is now 5-9 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.

Cayuga Coach Jim Alberici said the Spartans had too many turnovers and didn't rebound well in the first half, but said they played better in the second half.

"Onondaga is a very good and very athletic team. We gave up some easy shots and second-chance points in the first two quarters, and that hurt us. We played much harder in the last two quarters," said Alberici.

Cayuga trailed early but a Spartans' run in the first quarter narrowed the Lazers' advantage to 23-13 at the end of the quarter. Onondaga started the second quarter on a long run, though, and led 50-18 at halftime. The Spartans' play improved in the third and fourth quarters, but Onondaga held a double-digit lead through the rest of the contest.

Haley Mosch led the Spartans with 12 points and five steals, and Lamontiona Johnson added 11 points. Avrey Colton and Maddy Weed both had eight points, with Colton grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Lexi Alberici led Cayuga with five assists.

Cayuga is on the road at Corning Community College on Sunday, January 21. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
