Cayuga Community College Women's Basketball dominated from the opening seconds in a home win over SUNY Adirondack on Sunday.

The Spartans never trailed in the contest, racing out to an early double-digit lead on their way to a 61-28 win. Cayuga is now 8-10 on the season and 6-8 in Region III competition.

Cayuga Coach Jim Alberici said the team played well on both ends of the court, particularly on defense where they held the Timberwolves to only 11 points in the first two quarters.

"Before the game we talked about being more consistent, and we did that today. We only had 10 turnovers, moved the basketball really well and then got a lot of good shots off because of that," he said. "Defensively, we played the we have all year. I'm really excited with how we played today."

Cayuga dominated from the start, taking a quick lead on a Lexi Alberici three-pointer and sprinting to a 16-2 lead by the end of the opening quarter. The lead grew to 30-11 at halftime, with Lamontiona Johnson leading the Spartans with 11 points at the break.

The Spartans remained in control in the third and fourth quarters, leading by at least 20 points for most of the third quarter before growing the lead to more than 30 in the final frame.

Johnson led the Spartans with 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Haley Mosch had 18 points, a team-high nine rebounds and five steals, and Avrey Colton had eight points and five assists. Alberici also had five assists.

Cayuga is back home Wednesday, January 31, to host Jefferson Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
