Spartans Fall to FMCC

Cayuga Community College Women's Basketball lost its final game of the regular season to a strong Fulton-Montgomery Community College team on Saturday.

A strong fourth quarter wasn't enough for the Spartans to overcome a challenging first three frames, losing 81-46 to the Raiders. Cayuga ends the regular season with a record of 10-13, a 7-11 mark in Region III play and a record of 6-6 against Mid-State Athletic Conference opponents.

Cayuga trailed 45-22 at halftime against FMCC, and was unable to cut into the Raiders' advantage in the third quarter. The Spartans held Fulton-Montgomery to just five points in the fourth quarter.

Avrey Colton led Cayuga with 12 points and had three assists. Lamontiona Johnson had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Haley Mosch had eight points, eight rebounds and four steals. Maddy Weed finished with seven points and a team-high four assists. 

In the week prior to the contest against the Raiders, the Spartans won two home games, defeating Monroe Community College and Finger Lakes Community College.

Against the Tribunes, Cayuga led 41-34 going into the fourth quarter and dominated the final frame for a 55-41 win. Weed had 17 points, including five three-pointers, to go with 11 rebounds and five steals. Mosch had 13 points and a team-high 12 rebounds, and Johnson had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Cayuga dominated Finger Lakes in the first quarter, building a 24-4 advantage on their way to a 69-49 win. Johnson, Mosch and Weed each had 18 points, with Mosch finishing with six steals. Colton had nine points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals.

The Spartans will learn their postseason schedule soon, with the MSAC Tournament starting this week and the Region III tournament starting the week of Feb. 26.
