Lady Spartans Close Out 2013 Campaign, Win-Loss Record Does Not Tell the Whole Season Story

Lady Spartans Close Out 2013 Campaign, Win-Loss Record Does Not Tell the Whole Season Story

Cayuga Women's Soccer ended their season last evening with a 8-0 loss to the nationally ranked Panthers from Tompkins Cortland CC.  The Spartans would only get two chances on goal with the best coming in the middle of the second half, when Ashley Windhausen pressured TC3's two center backs at the same time and somehow came away with the ball, pushing past their goalie.  Her shot would just go past the left post as one of TC3's defenders recovered in time to disrupt her attempt on goal.

Windhausen's effort was a mirror image of the Spartans season.  While the ladies were not the most talented team in the region, their positive work ethic and "never give up" attitude carried through from the first whistle at Clinton to the final whistle last evening at TC3.   Every active player improved over the course of the season, with a handful excelling in their efforts.  Something both Coach Renaud and Coach Simmons are very proud of.

The team once again will receive the NSCAA Silver Star Team Ethics Award for Sportsmanship, accumulating only one yellow card over the course of the 14 game schedule.  The team and coaching staffs have a bright outlook for the 2014 nontraditional spring season as the entire roster will be returning for the 2014 regular season, including medical redshirt captain Brooke Mayville who went down in the first game with a season ending knee injury.

Coach Renaud and Coach Simmons are continuing to look to build on this year's roster with a solid recruiting plan, in the hopes the foundation of the returners are complimented with 8-10 new faces in August of 2014, in their effort to return this storied program to the NJCAA Region III Tournament.
